Warm
Weather Makeup Musts
Debra
Macki, a celebrity makeup artist, says makeup this season
is all about sparkly, iridescent, and bright colors
in golds and pinks. "You have to have glitter,"
she says. "It's a total staple item in your makeup
kit." Glitz up and glamorize your look with these
tips and picks.
Be a sparkling diva with Debra Macki's Cyberdust. This
sheer, shiny loose powder will brighten your eyes in
seconds. And, Debra promises, any of her four shades
-- Supermodel, Tiara, Champagne Bubbles, and Ice Princess
-- will look amazing. ($18, www.debramacki.com)
For a deep, radiant glow without having to sit in the
sun, try Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula with Vitamin
E Body Gloss. This rich cream not only smells delicious,
it illuminates skin with a subtle shimmer and leaves
it feeling soft and smooth.. (www.palmerscocoabutter.com)
Choose a powdery cover-up or bronzer rather than a heavy
concealer or foundation. This one from Shiseido will
give you a natural-looking matte color, protect your
face, and stop summertime shiny-head. (Shiseido Sun
Block Compact SPF 32, $28.50, www.sca.shiseido.com)
Lighten your blush and lipstick palettes with Stila's
multi-use cosmetics like this cheek and lip duo. It's
smart, chic, and versatile -- sure to brighten your
face in a flash! (Stila's spring cheek/lip duo, $25,
www.stilacosmetics.com)
Swipe Bonne Bell's Eye Fusion on your lids for a dramatic
daytime or nighttime look. This metallic-colored liquid
eye shadow works with jeans and looks smashing with
a sassy skirt. (www.bonnebell.com)
Skin
Smarts
No
matter what your skin type is, proper cleansing is just
as mportant as knowing about other skin conditions like
eczema and melanoma.
"Eczema
is a common rash that shows up in the fold of the arms
or other parts of the body, sometimes the face,"
Pomerantz says. "It looks like red, scaly, flaky
patches, and tends to be itchy."
Uncontrollable
itchiness, in fact, is a distinctive characteristic
of eczema, which causes rough, dry patches that don't
respond to moisturizer. Oftentimes you need a dermatologist
to prescribe an effective treatment.
Although
developing and outgrowing eczema early in life is more
likely, says Pomerantz, a small group of people get
it in their teen years; others have it throughout their
childhood and adult lives.
Melanoma is a type of skin cancer, which, unlike eczema,
is preventable and curable. To minimize your chances
of developing melanoma, be sure to protect yourself
from harmful sun exposure. Aside from applying SPF lotion,
Pomerantz also recommends wearing protective clothes
and avoiding the sun when it's intense. "We advise
you stay out of the sun from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.,
and wear a hat to shade you from the sun's rays."
