Are
You a Total Woman of Tomorrow?
by Rebecca Vara
What
would come to mind if you heard the names AMELIA EARHART,
LISA LESLIE, and CONDOLEEZA RICE together in one sentence?
Important women in the news? Keep guessing. Women who
have made a difference? You're almost there. Okay, here's
the answer: They represent extraordinary American women
of yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
As
part of National Women's History Month this past March,
The Women's Museum, a Smithsonian affiliate, partnered
with ARRID Antiperspirant & Deodorant to recognize
the most influential American women of the year, as
well as those of all time -- and that could mean scholarship
dollars for you!
Through
the ARRID Total Women of Tomorrow Scholarship program,
three junior or senior female students from around the
country who fit the contest's criteria will be awarded
over $18,000 in college cash.
| To
be in the running, you must possess the following
characteristics: |
| 1)
A clear vision of future goals |
| 2)
Strength of character, including depth of convictions
and an unwavering commitment to integrity |
| 3)
A pioneering spirit, with the courage to transcend
barriers and exceed expectations |
| 4)
Community stewardship promoting participation in
meaningful community activities, and the ability
to motivate others to become involved |
In
addition, the ARRID campaign includes a collectible
card series and an online educational component at www.totalwomen.org.
"The program is to help raise awareness of the
impact of women in history and the women of today,"
explains Deborah Kelco, a spokesperson for the campaign.
"We are searching for the women of tomorrow."
Think
you've got the "woman of tomorrow" goods?
If so, you can receive a generous scholarship for your
accomplishments. Not to mention having your story and
accomplishments celebrated as part of the collectible
card series, which will be distributed to select high
schools across the country.
Three
lucky winners will be recognized, along with historic
women like SUSAN B. ANTHONY, ELIZABETH BLACKWELL, and
ELEANOR ROOSEVELT, who have already been selected as
the ARRID Total Women of Yesterday.
Who knows -- maybe you, too, can make a difference.
